The ole Bexar on fire
On 30 Aug 1945,prior to commissioning, while still being fitted out, hot chards from a welder's outfit ignited some transformer oil and started this blaze which jumped to a second ship moored alongside. The total damages to several ships and the outfitting shop were estimated at $3,000,000. and two lives were lost.
